In the spring of 1975, as the Vietnam War was drawing to a close, First National City Bank closed its Saigon branch, leaving its 34 Vietnamese staffers behind. John Riordan, then assistant manager, had been removed to Hong Kong, but returned against company orders to help those staffers and their families out of the country.
